Congratulations to Phillip Sullivan and Mallory Dyson for being named athletes of the meet from this week's meet against South Lakes.
Phillip earned his recognition for a couple of reasons. The first is his strong performances in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Phillip's times are consistently on or very near his personal bests. He is also being recognized for his hard work each day at practice and his willingness to push himself in races. Phillip's perseverance and work ethic serve as a model for his teammates of what the coaching staff is looking for from our athletes.
Mallory earned her spot for great swims in the 50 free and the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays. Her times continue to improve each week and she plays an important role in helping her team win. Her leg in the 200 freestyle relay enabled her team to edge out a very good South Lakes team. And she very nearly caught the Seahawks for third place in the 400 freestyle relay. Mallory's positive attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to make her team succeed are appreciated by everyone.
There were several other athletes who deserve honorable mention. The first is Grayson Campbell, who broke his own school record again this week. Jackson Ayers continues to improve in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Alex Ruleman had one of his strongest meets as a Warhawk tonight, including season-best swims in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Ian Russiello's final leg in the 400 freestyle relay provided the difference between finishing second and winning the race. Leah Knight did a great job of swimming despite having sustained a cut to her face earlier in the week. She was able to overcome significant discomfort to finish first in the 100 breaststroke. Julia Downing's 50 freestyle and her role on both the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays were also exemplary. She consistently competes and earns points for her team week in and week out.
