Congratulations to Alex Ruleman, Grayson Campbell, and Sidney Owens for being named athletes of the meet for our meet against Stone Bridge.
Alex earned recognition for his continued strong performances in the 50 and 100 freestyle events and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. He continues to improve from week to week and is now as fast as he has ever been with Madison. Alex continues to lead by example through his hard work in practice.
Grayson was named athlete of the meet for a couple of notable reasons. The first is his breaking of the school diving record for the third time this season. Just as impressive was his lead-off leg in the 200 freestyle relay. Despite not having raced in several years Grayson turned in a split that puts him among the fastest 50 freestylers on the team.
Sidney also had a very strong meet tonight - especially in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle events. Sidney won both of her events in convincing fashion. She also helped lead both of her relays to victories again tonight. Her dedication over the years makes her a strong leader who will certainly be missed when she graduates later this year.
Several other athletes deserve honorable mention for their work this week. Bradley Cazenas made his regions cut tonight in the diving competition. Ryan Lucas posted a very strong 100 breaststroke, managing to out touch his opponent from Stone Bridge for first place. Phillip Sullivan dropped 2 seconds off of his 200 freestyle time tonight, breaking the 2:00 barrier for the first time. Abraham Zimmerman also posted a personal best tonight. His time in the 100 freestyle improves on his previous personal best from last week. Rachael Holp had solid performances in the 200 and 500 freestyle events using her smooth stroke to win both events. Laurel Schmidt earned recognition for breaking 1:00 in the 100 freestyle for the first time tonight during her anchor leg in the 400 freestyle relay.
