Regions Wrapup

Congratulations to the men's and women's teams for a great showing at Regions this weekend. There were so many season-best and personal-best times that it was hard to keep up! We also had several school records broken during the meet. The men finished in 11th place while the women finished 8th (just 1 point behind McLean).

There were a number of notable performances from the meet that should be recognized:
  1. Grayson Campbell finished second in the diving competition, despite suffering an injury late in the meet. Hopefully he's fully healed for states, where we look forward to his continued success.
  2. Laura Sullivan, Madeline LaPorte and Rachael Holp each broke the school record in the 100 backstroke TWICE this weekend. The previous record, set in 1996, is the second-oldest record in the books. Laura holds the record for now, that that could change at states or next season.
  3. The women's 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays each set new school records as well. The medley relay, consisting of Laura Sullivan, Leah Knight, Madeline LaPorte and Sidney Owens broke the previous record by 0:25 seconds. The 400 freestyle relay, consisting of Sidney Owens, Madeline LaPorte, Laura Sullivan and Rachael Holp broke the old record by more than 5 seconds!
  4. Ian Russiello finished 5th in the 200 freestyle and 6th in the 100 butterfly, leading the way for the men's team. Alex Ruleman and Jack Galbraith also scored points by placing 16th in the 50 free and 15th in the 500 freestyle, respectively.
  5. The women's team had a number of athletes who competed in multiple events. Laura Sullivan finished 8th in the 200 free and 5th in the 100 back. Sidney Owens was 10th in the 200 IM and 15th in the 100 freestyle. Rachael Holp was 6th in the 200 free and 8th in the 100 back. Madeline LaPorte was 16th in the 100 fly and 7th in the 100 back.
We will head off to states in two weeks where the team looks forward to continuing our success!
