Athletes of the Meet - Robinson

Congratulations to Brayden Philpott and Riley DeLacy on being named athletes of the meet for our meet against Robinson.

Brayden earned recognition in his Madison debut because of his strong times and his positive attitude. Brayden was an "iron man" tonight, competing in three of four events in a row. When his team needed him he was there to provide a significant presence in the 500 free, 200 freestyle relay, and 100 breaststroke. Along the way, Brayden set a personal record in the 500 by dropping nearly three seconds.

Riley was named athlete of the meet because of her grit and determination as well. She was involved in two very exciting and close races in both the 200 free and 500 free. Recent improvements in her turns helped Riley to out-touch a Robinson swimmer to secure a fourth-place finish in the 200. And in her 500 Riley narrowly missed out on first place by 1.5 seconds. Her positive attitude and hard work at practice are clearly paying off!

There were several other athletes that earned honorable mention this week:
  1. Jacob Roth - Jacob set a personal record in the 100 backstroke tonight. He also continues to improve in the 100 butterfly, which is a relatively new event for him. His split in the 400 freestyle relay helped keep the event close.
  2. Joseph Clayton - Joseph continues his strong freshman year with another meet of improving times in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
  3. Anna Miller - Anna Miller's performances tonight prove once again how valuable an asset she is to the team. Her split in the 200 freestyle was one of the fastest all season. She also provides invaluable leadership at practice and during meets.
  4. Anna Sullivan - Anna had a very strong night, winning both the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke. Both times were just off of her personal-best. What is more appreciated by the coaches is Anna's positive attitude and willingness to compete in events she does not normally swim.
  5. Madeline LaPorte - Madeline's season debut was a strong one. She won both of her events and lead a come-from-behind victory for the 400 freestyle relay. Madeline provided a steady, veteran presence during a week in which many of our younger athletes took a leading role.
  6. Alison Miller - Alison earned honorable mention on the strength of her breaststroke this week. She started the meet by providing a steady split in the 200 medley relay. She then followed it up with a personal-best time in the 100 breaststroke.
  7. Ciara Barrett - Ciara competed in the 100 butterfly for the first time and did a fantastic job at it. Her time is competitive with many of our other veteran flyers. She has come a long way in the past three years on the team. And the coaches look forward to seeing her continue to grow over the course of this season.
  8. Morgan Howat - Morgan set a personal record in the 100 backstroke, shattering her previous best by more than 3 seconds! She works hard every practice and takes advice from the coaches to heart. Her willingness to learn and improve clearly showed in all of her races.
  9. Katie Kane - Katie also set a personal-best in the 100 breaststroke. By the end of the race Katie dropped more than four seconds off her previous best! Katie is a true competitor who swims with real determination.
