Athletes of the Meet - Fairfax

Congratulations to Abraham Zimmerman and Rachael Holp on being named athletes of the meet for tonight's contest against Fairfax. There were several athletes who performed well but both Abraham and Rachael had performances that really stood out.

Abraham earned his recognition for strong swims in the 200 and 500 freestyle. In both events, Abraham turned in times that were right on his season best or slightly better. His leg in the 400 freestyle relay was even more impressive where Abraham logged a blistering sub 0:50 time. Abraham has continued his success from last year. His dedication to improving his stroke and his solid work ethic during practice are positive models for the rest of our team.

Rachael was selected as athlete of the meet primarily because of her final leg of the 400 freestyle relay. Despite being behind by more than a body length at the start, Rachael was able to out-touch Fairfax's relay by 0.32 second. Rachael also had solid performances in both the 100 fly and 100 back. Rachael continues to swim well during dual meets and is positioning herself for a very strong region and state meets.

Honorable mention goes out to Leah Knight on another strong meet. Leah dropped 6 seconds off her previous personal best in the 500, as well as another half second in the 100 breast. Katie Rooney also had a solid meet. Her time in the 200 IM was nearly 10 seconds faster than her previous personal best. And her 500 freestyle was nearly 15 seconds faster than it was at the end of last season. Another honorable mention goes out to Julia Downing for continuing to post strong times in the 50 free and 100 breast. Julia returned to competition for Madison by posting season-best times in both of her events.
