Congratulations to Jack Galbraith and Laurel Schmidt for being selected as athletes of the meet for our meet against McLean.
Jack earned recognition for his season-best times in the 100 back, 500 free, and 400 freestyle relay. Jack has consistently performed well this season and is primed to have a very strong conference and regional meets. Swimmers in the conference and region ought to get to know Jack well. As a freshman he has many more years of success ahead of him.
Laurel was named athlete of the meet based primarily on her success over the past two weeks. Laurel broke the 1:00 mark in her 100 freestyle three times in the past week. Not only does this represent three personal bests in a row, but it also means Laurel earned a spot in that event at conferences this week. Laurel continues to work hard every day at practice and it shows.
Several other athletes earned honorable mention recognition for their performances this past week. The men's 200 freestyle relay, which included Alex Ruleman, Marcus Card, Eric Cann and Ian Russiello earned recognition for earning a state cut in the event. Ian's anchor leg secured this achievement with a team-best sub :22 time. Phillip Sullivan continues to drop time and log personal bests in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. Alec Biles also continues to drop time in his 100 breaststroke and has earned a spot in the conference meet this weekend. As has Connor Smith, whose 100 backstroke continues to improve week after week. Madeline LaPorte had her best meet as a Warhawk this week. Her times are headed in the right direction as we enter into championship season. Leah Knight also continues improve, just missing the region cut in the 100 breast. She will surely get it this week at conferences!
