Athletes of the Meet - South Lakes

Congratulations to Cole Dyson and Sidney Miralao on being named athletes of the meet from tonight's victories against South Lakes.

Cole earned his award with strong swims in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, as well as being a key contributor on both the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays. Cole's times continue to improve from a strong freshman year. His time in the 200 free already qualifies him for regions. And his 500 time was only 2 seconds off the region cut. It is only a matter of time for Cole as he continues to improve.

Sidney was named athlete of the meet because of her strong performances in the 400 freestyle relay and the 100 butterfly. Sidney's time in the 100 fly was the fastest of her high school career. She is primed to drop significant time in her events this season.

There were a number of extraordinary performances tonight that deserve recognition:
  1. Sam Duncan -- Sam's first meet as a Warhawk was definitely a memorable one. Not only did he win the dive competition, but he also qualified for regions. Sam will face strong competition from his brother, Greg, throughout the season. But it is clear that Sam is a budding superstar in his own regard who will be a key contributor for years to come.
  2. Madison Grosz -- Madison also had a strong debut as a Warhawk in diving. Madison finished second in the event while also earning her region cut. She is continuing a long tradition of successful women divers at Madison.
  3. Elizabeth Kuhlkin -- Elizabeth started the meet by helping her 200 medley relay set a new school record with a strong butterfly leg. Her time in the 100 freestyle was also one of the fastest individual times in many years.
  4. Anna Sullivan -- Anna had a tremendous meet as well. Her time in the 100 backstroke was a personal best (1:01.94), which was good enough for first place. She also finished 3rd in the IM with a time that was just 1 second off of her personal best.
  5. Anna Keating -- Anna's debut included two school records. She was a member of the record-setting 200 medley relay. And she also broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke that was set four years ago by Sami Fletcher. Anna also posted a near-personal best time in the 400 freestyle relay. Her versatility will be a key asset to the team throughout the season.
  6. Riley DeLacy -- Riley had strong performances in the 200 and 500 freestyle. She provided a spark in both events that helped lead to team to its victory tonight. She also posted strong legs in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Her performance in the 200 freestyle relay was particularly impressive given that she had finished competing in the 500 just one event before.
  7. Julia Downing -- Julia Downing returned to the Warhawks with a bang tonight. Despite suffering from a severe migraine Julia still managed to post strong times in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke. Her anchor leg in the 200 freestyle relay gave her team a thrilling victory.
  8. Jack Galbraith -- Jack was a steady performer all night long. His split in the 200 medley relay was one of the best of his career. And his 100 backstroke time was the best he's posted in a dual meet so far in his career.
  9. Abraham Zimmerman -- Abraham had another consistently strong performance tonight. He posted region-qualifying times in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. His split in the 400 freestyle relay was as fast as any time he posted last year, which bodes well for a breakout season this year.
