Brayden had an exception meet to start the season. He set a personal best in the 200 IM to start the meet. He followed that up with some of his fastest times in the 50 and 100 free as part of the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Brayden works hard every day and demonstrates an infectious positivity.
John had the best meet of his Madison career, setting a personal best time in the 50 freestyle. His splits in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays were also his fastest-ever swims. John is a natural leader who is supportive of his teammates. John is a tremendous athlete who continues to grow as a sprint freestyler.
Maggie followed up her strong freshman season with a statement meet in the first week of the season. Her 100 fly time was just off of last year's state-qualifying time, while her splits in the 200 and 400 free relays were among some of her best swims as a Warhawk. She continues to get stronger and will play an important role in our success this year.
Hannah continues to be one of the most versatile athletes on our team. No matter what event she is entered in she brings a tenacious attitude and desire for success. This week she demonstrated just how well-rounded an athlete she is by posting a time that was just off her personal best in the 200 IM. Her split in the 400 free relay was the fastest 100 free time she's ever had.
Emma swam in her first-ever high school swim meet tonight and immediately made her mark. Her time in the 200 freestyle was 5 seconds faster than her previous personal-best time. Her 400 freestyle split was also just off of her personal best. Emma is still getting acquainted with the team, but has already shown how important she will be to our overall success.
There were several other athletes who earned honorable mention for their performances tonight:
- Sophia Brown -- Sophia enters her freshman year as a highly-touted addition to our roster and she proved exactly why tonight. She won the 50 freestyle and had a strong second-place finish in the 100 fly. She was also a key contributor on each of her event-winning relays.
- Regan Hau -- Regan earned the first individual win of her high school career in the 100 breast. She also looked strong in the 200 IM where she finished just off of her personal-best time in the event.
- Darby Galbraith -- Darby had a tremendous swim in the 100 back, utilizing a strong last 50 to put away her closest competitor by nearly a second. She also showed initiative and passion by volunteering to swim the 500.
- Natalie Lauer -- Natalie is another freshman who immediately put the Concorde District on notice in her first-ever meet. Her split in the 200 freestyle was extraordinary, while her time in the 100 breast was her best ever.
- Maddy Grosz -- Maddy's performance tonight ranks as the second-best in Madison history. Her score of 254.15 was just 1.35 points off of her own school record and qualifies her for the region meet. Maddy is looking to build on her second-place finish at states last year. Tonight's performance is certainly a good start toward that goal!
- Annabel Huffstutler -- Annabel is yet another member of a strong freshman class that established herself in her high school debut. Her time in the 100 freestyle was a personal best. She looked strong throughout the meet and provides the team with added depth and versatility.
- Sam Duncan -- Sam continued his storied career with another individual victory in dive tonight. His score of 356.70 puts him within striking distance of the school record. Sam is a tireless worker and important leader on our team with an exemplary positive attitude.
- Owen Murphy -- Owen earned his region cut in the dive tonight, placing second in the event. He overcame illness earlier in the week to deliver one of his signature performances.
- Jackson Miller -- Jackson's performances in the 200 free and 100 fly were essential to the team's success tonight. He took his 200 free out fast and held on to finish a close second. Then he put together a strong second-half in the fly to pull away from his closest competition to finish third, earning crucial points for our victory.
- Will Bush -- Will set personal best times in both the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Tonight was Will's first opportunity to compete in 2 individual events and he certainly made the most of it!
- James Rushforth -- James set a new personal-best in the 100 breast tonight. Tonight was James's first meet in what will certainly be a long and successful career at Madison.
